Chances are you've either seen chair massage at the Mall, Airport, Flea market, Exhibit, Convention, Promotional event, or party. But chair massage is more than just a novelty and the benefits go beyond just feeling good. As evidence it can be shown in the fact that major corporations are increasingly finding out it's therapeutic value by implementing massage programs in the workplace.
Companies are now discovering that a stress free environment whether it's emotional or physical, usually leads to higher productivity. Some of the physiological effects of chair massage can lower the blood pressure, ease the pinned up anxiety that eventually leads to tension in the neck, shoulders and upper back. It can also aid in better breathing creating a deeper state of relaxation, while at the same time revitalizing you.
Chair massage can be beneficial in treating and preventing repetitive stress injuries and conditions that commonly occur in the office. Such as chronic neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraine headaches, upper and lower back pain. These conditions are usually a result of an ergonomically incorrect working environment and practices, such as the tilting of the head while utilizing the telephone, poor seating postions and continuous computer usage that typically lead to protracted shoulders and neck.
Chair massage can also be useful in improving range of motion and flexibility, strengthening weak muscles, reeducating posture and increasing blood circulation. By applying pressure, kneading techniques, as well as stretching exercises to the appropriate areas, the tightly bound muscle fibers and trigger points are released and the pain over time is alleviated. Although workplace chair massage is ideal for the office jobs, by no means is it exclusive to just the office.
There are many jobs that are physically demanding ranging from assisted living staff to dock loaders whose physical work cause a variety of aches and pain, all of whom could greatly benefit from a weekly 15 to 20 minute chair massage. Typically a massage chair session takes place fully clothed without the use of oil and in a chair leaning forward with your face in a face rest and arms and legs resting on pads, whether at home or in an office it is usually done in a quiet relaxing environment, the massage therapist works on your neck, shoulders, upper back, arms and hands unless you have a specific condition then they would concentrate on a particular area.
Onsite chair massage is also convenient for those individuals that really need therapy but whose hectic lifestyle is such that it does not allow them the luxury of time it takes to travel to a spa for an hour massage. Also for those who feel that the price for a full body massage is prohibitive, chair massage once again is a perfect alternative. On the average it only costs between a dollar to a dollar fifty a minute for a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes, making it extremely affordable while at the same time achieving desirable results. So perhaps you've never considered getting a chair massage because you've never understood the therapeutic benefits of having one, or just simply assumed that you couldn't afford it. But now that you know all of the benefits the ease and convenience, how can you afford not to have a chair massage?

Thanks for the post. I have been wondering if chair massage would be a worthwhile investment to bring into the office. It sounds like it can do a lot of good.
I thought that massage chairs can greatly work on relieving tension. But you proved me wrong. Really nice share. Thanks for sharing this really nice post.
On the surface, massage chairs seem pricey. There are models under $1000 right on up to the neighborhood of $5000. But think about it. We spend thousands of dollars on home gym equipment. Why? Because it pays off in the long run. Rates for a nationally certified massage therapist can range from $40 to even over $100 per hour depending on training, location and any added service. Sitting in your very own massage chair a few times will make up for the price! But, coupled with all the other advantages of a massage chairs in the home offers, price should not even be a factor.
